A new year is in front of us. I’m excited and ready, but I’m also nervous. The last three years have been a roller coaster, and I don’t think this ride is coming to an end anytime soon. Plenty of things are out of my control, and I cannot and will not worry about those things. Instead I’m putting all my efforts into working on what I can control.
As I put pen to paper and set goals for this year, I’ve been listening to several podcasts and reading articles that enlighten me about how to run my business better. One podcast featured Brendon Burchard and a great discussion on conscious change. Conscious refers to being knowledgeable of the impact of what we do. Combine conscious with the word change and you create a phrase that has real depth. Burchard focused on four steps to creating conscious change:
- Awareness
- Self-acceptance
- Accountability
- Aligned action
As I listened to him describing each of these steps, it lit a fire in me to dig into my plans for growing my business this year. As I tackle the myriad of topics relevant to running a business, I am running each through this series of steps. Am I aware of what is working and what is not working? Am I clear about my plans and confident about the direction I am taking? I own my business and am accountable for my actions. Can I own my wins and my losses? And, most importantly, can I align my words with my actions?
I will take time in making decisions so at the end of this year, I can celebrate.
